May 12, 2012

Today we met up outside the hotel at 8.45 and took a tube line and a bus to St Paul’s Cathedral.  This cathedral is hundreds of years old and is the resting place for hundreds of devout religious figures from as old as the 1200’s.  We were here for about two hours and then we all met up and walked to the top of the cathedral.  There were three levels to overlook the vast floor below and overlook the city outside.  This was a great photo opportunity and the view was extraordinary.  The walk to the top was pretty tough; it was 528 steps to the top.  The walk to the first level, which looked over the sanctuary below, wasn’t that bad.  The next two levels were pretty tough, especially for me.  It was a narrow spiral staircase and narrow corridors to the next two levels.   I’m a big guy and have big shoulders, at one point it was so narrow I had to turn sideways and crawl on my hands and feet in order to make it through.  The climb was definitely worth it, the view was magnificent from the top of the cathedral.  Check out my pictures that I will upload to see the view that I had. After visiting St. Paul’s we walked to the Tower of London.  On the way there we saw a man get hit by a van, it was not good.  He was moving his arms and legs, which is a good sign I’m assuming.  This opened our eyes to how dangerous the streets of London are, and he was in the crosswalk.  We have been extremely cautious while crossing the streets since then.

Inside the Tower of London there were a few museums, the torture museum, the crown jewels museum, and the British military museum.  From the entrance of the London Tower, we had the best view of the Tower Bridge.  It is an amazing bridge.  The last thing we did today was visit the Imperial War Museum.  It has exhibits such as aviation, tanks, WWI, WWII, and a holocaust exhibit.  This was a busy day, and it isn’t over yet.  We came back to the hotel and showered.  We were given about an hour to eat and get to the Wimbledon Theater.  We ate at another pub and I had the chicken special, which was actually really good.  We were going to a show called ‘The King’s Speech’.  The thing is that it takes pubs so long to get the food, check, drinks, etc. and we were crushed on time.  We made it from Russell Square Station to Leicester Square station in nine minutes… that’s three stops and a couple hundred yards, it’s pretty impressive.  The play was actually pretty good, the best part was that the main character was the father in the movie Jumangi, I thought that was interesting.  After the play we went to just a random pub for a few drinks and called it a night. Post again tomorrow.  Deuces.
